Can someone outside the team sign up for an event?
Yes. At the bottom of the event's page there is Add a visiting player, where you type the visitor's name. No account is needed: a team member can add a friend, or the visitor can do it on the event's public page while the event is current. This suits stand-ins and people trying the team out once or twice.
Visiting players are listed in the sign-ups as their own group after the roles, and they are counted in the number of participants. Once the sign-up deadline has passed or the event is full (the Pro Package's deadline and maximum), only a manager can add visiting players.
If the same person keeps coming, make them a team member, so that they get the notifications and see the discussions: How are new members added to the team?
