Who we are

Playerlineup began when our recreational basketball team struggled to coordinate practices and games. Messages didn’t reach everyone, schedule changes caused confusion, and we often didn’t know if we had enough players.

After one especially awkward day when only four players showed up for an away game, we decided to build a simple tool so everyone knew the schedule, any changes, and who was in, out or maybe.

This was back in the early 2000s—when ringtones were polyphonic and group chats weren’t a thing. We couldn’t find a tool that did what teams needed, so a few of us with tech chops put together our own: one place for the schedule, automatic change notifications, and—most importantly—clear attendance with In, Out and Maybe.

Word spread to other teams, and they adopted the tool as well. We kept refining it based on real-life feedback from coaches, players and parents. What started as a side project grew step by step into Playerlineup.

Things snowballed: by 2007 it had turned into a full‑time job, and in 2008 we launched the service to the public. More teams joined, more sports came aboard, and we kept shipping the practical stuff people asked for.

Today we continue improving the service with a long‑term commitment and a clear goal: make team management effortless so people can focus on sports. Got an idea or a tiny annoyance? Tell us—many features started as a coach’s “could we just…?” And yes, we still aim to ensure no team ever turns up with only four players again.
